Spinel-eyed desert-fish necklace
0.32 carat spinel
In 1983 I picked up a dry juniper twig in the stark desert beauty of Utah´s Canyon Lands - a wizened sweet-smelling scrap of former life from a dead environment.
With minimal carving I made it into a sea-monster. I wanted a red eye to bring my monster to life - something brilliant and surprising - so chose a spinel for its incomparable colour, clarity and brilliance.
